The Power of The Pause: Allowing Myself to Rest

Earlier today, I was feeling really tired and my back was sore. I wanted to take some time to meditate, but I have a million things to do before we go away.

For an hour or so I wrestled with this in my head.

Even though I've got way better at allowing myself to rest these past few years, when I'm busy, I tend to want to push on through.

After wandering around the house doing things at half pace for a bit, I decided a short meditation might be a good idea.

So, I lay down on my bed, made a selection from The Mindful Movement's podcast, and closed my eyes. Before I knew it, the phone was ringing, waking me from a deep sleep.

Interestingly, since waking up, my mind is clearer, my back pain has gone, and I feel refreshed. Without a doubt, every single time I allow myself to take the rest I need, it pays dividends.

What is it about resting, particularly during the day, that we can sometimes get so hung up about?

For me, I tell myself that this is lazy, something I guess I heard somewhere a very long time ago. Wherever that came from, there is no need for me to continue to carry that outdated and inaccurate thought in my head any longer. I now release that unhelpful thought from my conscious and unconscious mind and free myself from the burden of thinking it. I can rest whenever I need or want to.

What outdated belief do you need to let go of?

With love,
